The different episode going from North to South of the Italian boot, discovery, and documentary the wine history of this country.  The team of Klaas de Jong the producer, after a marvelous documentary about France wines, this time with 5 episodes go deeply into the heart of the different characters of the fines 5 wines region of Italy. Steiermark Styria “Green Heart” of Austria.

Steiermark Styria a region with 4633 hectares under vines.  The terrain here is hilly, mountainous, and many of the vineyards are planted on steep slopes to take advantage of sunlight and the winds. The climate is definite continental, winters are still quite cold, and annual rainfall is high however is warmer than most of Austria's wine-producing regions, and is almost Mediterranean in nature. The growing season is long, and grapes have time to develop flavor complexity while retaining their acidity.  The wines of Steiermark are particularly distinctive. Volcanic soils in Sudoststeiermark provide an excellent foundation for the aromatic Traminer varieties, while the high altitude and limestone soils in Sudsteiermark produce wines made from Sauvignon Blanc. Lurquin - Augustin - La Parcelle - Growers in Champagne

Aurelien Lurquin  Aurelien Lurquin is located in the village in Romery along the Marne River in the department of the Valle de la Marne.  His winemaking background coming from his grand-father a vineyard worker from the Lanson Negociant for several decades.  He starts making Coteaux Champenois still wine at the beginning.  Lurquin holding is in total of 2.5 hectares of vines, certified organic from 2012. This is a very small production around Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay only two Cuvee are made so far each vintage.   Aurelien study oenological and did some experience in Chile (Maule region) and Burgundy (Domaine Pavelot), in 2007 came back home to the Champagne region and start to work in his project to make Champagne from his grandfather holding. 2015 Intellego Kolbroek Swartland South Africa  Inspiration for this name comes from a breed of local pigs in South Africa called “Kolbroek” in Afrikaans mother tongue. This is a Syrah done in semi-carbonic maceration for 10days in open tank, after primary fermentation the wine aging in 500l Puncheons barrels for 9months, the grapes are picked during the month of January to avoid the heatwaves of South Africa. 'Kolbroek' consists of grapes sourced from 2 parcels one on shale soil and the other on gravel soils. The Malmesbury shale soil one block, the second on gravel soil. The block planted on shale faces North and is harvested earlier to retain the fresher tannins and amazing flavors influenced by that soil.
