Champagne Dhondt Grellet

The Domaine Dhondt Grellet is situated in Flavigny in the Cotes des Blanc near the grand cru Avize, the propriety owns around 6 hectares of vines classified Grand Cru and Premier Cru with different Lieu dit in Cramant (grand cru) and Cuis (premier cru) mainly chardonnay.
The Domaine start in 1986 with Eric Dhondt and Edith Grellet when it was decide to stop selling grapes to the negotiant.
Currently, Adrien the son has taken over the Domaine and he has given to the Maison a different perception converting all the land in organic farming, separate vinification of the single vineyard lieu-dit to give a more expression to the terroir.

Adrien welcomed us in the domaine and we tasted different wine from barrels, from his solera which start in 1986. The Vin Clair were complete wines with tension energy and roundness, doing harvest at the perfect maturation. This allowed them to not doing chaptalisation also to create a base wine for the second fermentation with complexity and big spectrum of flavour.
Adrien is a great charismatic person with the straight view from his Domaine which is the low dosage single vineyard and organic farming.
In the little barrel feuillettes we tasted the vintage 2016 which will be a Coteaux Champneoise blanc a very mineral, salty, chalky wine; Adrien not sure when this will be released.

The Rose Le Duo is an assemblage with Chardonnay from Cuis and Pinot Noir from Alvenay D'or. Strawberry, pastry and chalky.
We tasted Les Nogers 2012 form the Cuis 1er village with 2,4g. Residual Sugar, 5 years on lees disgorged in March this year. The wine got lots secondary character with rich palate but support by good energy. A little baby currently now.

From 2014 we also tasted the Vielle Cigne "Le Bateau" from the grand cru Cramant. 1,6g residual sugar very chalky minerality a blanc de blanc with tension and energy like a razor.
This cuvee never had So2 at the bottling, Disgorged this year.
A wine to buy in quantity if you can considering the small amount produced.
