Rabasco Vini Naturali Abruzzo

The Rabasco winery is located in a little town called Pianella, near Loreto Aprutino, in the heart of Abruzzo's on 400 meter average altitude, facing the Adriatic sea with La Majella & Gran Sasso mountains on the shoulder, a special place cover with vines and olive's production. Iole Rabasco, originally from Lucania, after graduating in law, decided to start a new adventure in the inland countryside of Pescara and bought a small estate in 2005. Together with her mother Giulia Palese, she realised her dream and launched a project of sustainability and quality, aimed to the purest and most natural aspects of the land into the wine.

The vines, which include varieties of Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and Montepulciano, are spread over 4 vineyards (Cancelli, Concheta, La Salita and San Desiderio) between Loreto Aprutino and the municipality of Pianella, with different microclimates, exposures and land conformations.

The soils, is compose of mainly clay in the surface with marn on the bed soil and are managed with biodynamic preparations, lunar calendar and lots of respect for mother nature. In the cellar, everything is almost done by hands allowing fermentation to take place with indigenous yeast in steel, fiberglass, old barrels and demijohns. No sulphites are added at any stage and the bottling phases are based on the lunar calendar.

The vines across the property, are also quite old, 40 years average. Yields are kept low but not excessively low as Iole prefers her wines with more acidity and freshness than power and extract.

                       Iole talk about the soil
The wines of Rabasco have always a nice core of acidity, mineral content with lots of complexity trough the enjoyiment of a bottle.
La Salita Trebbiano has always a nice fresh tension.
Bianco Damigiana is a complex millefeuille of flavours and complexity due to the maceration with the Trebbiano skin.
                           Demijon tasting
The Rose is bright, Juicy and lively.
The Cancelli selection is always terroir driven of this part of Abruzzo with medium body, with drinkability and perfect sense of place. This wines are always outstanding for the every day plate for your lunch and dinner.
The character I love a lot is the savoury elements always present in those wines.
