Dario Princic 2018

Dario Princic:

is a leading producer of macerated white wines. He commenced working in his family vineyards as a child and since 1988 has cultivated his own vineyards without chemicals, utilising biodynamic farming principles. Dario commenced bottling his own wines in 1993. Today he owns 7 hectares of low yielding, close-planted guyot trained vines in the tiny hamlet of Oslavia on Italy's border with Slovenia. The vines are planted in the limestone rock called Ponka, a crumbly clay marl derived from sandstone which produces powerful, age worthy wines.
Harvest is by hand, fermentation is in open oak vats, and maceration lasts between 10 and 30 days with final aging in very old barriques that no longer release any wood flavour. His wines have intensity, elegance and freshness. Less than 26,000 bottles per year are produced.
Dario Princic is located in Oslavia in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, very close to the Slovenian border.
He farms Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, all without any chemicals in the vineyards since 1988.

NV Bianco
Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio.
The Bianco is a skin contact white blend. The grapes are macerated for just a few days, then aged in old chestnut and oak barrels.
2018 Jakot
Friulano is the grape coming from 60-year-old vines planted in marl and sandstone called locally “Ponka”. The wine ages for 30 months in large barrels. Spontaneous fermentation in open wooden vats, with over 20 days of maceration on the skins.
2018 Ribolla Gialla
Ribolla Gialla from 60 years old vines. Manually harvested, fermented in open-top wood and chestnut fermenters with indigenous yeast, 35-days skin-contact maceration. Matured for three years on the lees in barriques, assembled in stainless steel and rested in bottles before release.
2018 Sivi
Pinot Grigio. Manually harvested, fermented in open top wood and chestnut, macerated for 7 days on skins. Followed by two and half years in tonneaux, decanted to stainless steel and then to bottle to rest.
2016 Trebez Selezione
Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon old vines.
Trebez wine comes from a classic Collio blend, on marl soils rich in sandstone. The vines, located around the Oslavia area, are grown without any chemical or synthetic product. Spontaneous fermentation in open vats, 27 days of maceration for Chardonnay and Sauvignon, 7 for Pinot Grigio; followed by 42 months in large barrels.
