Two corners of Italy, Vin Vivant... Ottenimenti & Masseria Case Rosse
In the wild alpine slopes of Val di Susa, Mario Siragusa works with quiet determination. Old vines, mountain air, and a philosophy rooted in patience and humility. No shortcuts, no additives, just grapes, time, and trust in the land.
The story of Mario Siragusa begins in the quiet alpine valley of Val di Susa, a historic corridor between Italy and France where vines have grown for centuries on steep mountain terraces.
Mario didn’t start as a classic winemaker. The Ottenimenti project was born from curiosity and experimentation rather than tradition alone. Fascinated by forgotten grapes and old farming practices of the valley, he began recovering small abandoned plots, working them by hand and farming without chemicals. The goal was simple but radical: let the mountain speak through the wine.
In the cellar, Mario follows the same philosophy. Fermentations happen spontaneously with native yeasts, and the wines are made without added sulphur. Nothing is corrected, polished, or forced. The wines evolve naturally, shaped by altitude, cold nights, and the mineral soils of the Alps.
“Ottenimenti” in Italian suggests achievements or results, but for Mario it represents something deeper: the ongoing attempt to reconnect with a living landscape and rediscover what wine from Val di Susa once was.
The result is wine that feels almost alpine in spirit—raw, vibrant, and deeply tied to its place.
Further south on the volcanic soils of Etna, Masseria Case Rosse channels the raw energy of the mountain. Farming with respect for tradition, crafting wines without added sulphurare , letting the lava-rich terroir speak with clarity and intensity.
The story of Salvatore Giardina and Masseria Case Rosse begins on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna.
Salvatore was originally a restorer of antique furniture, a craft that taught him patience, precision, and deep respect for history. When he turned to wine, he brought the same philosophy with him: preserve rather than transform.
Working with old vines rooted in Etna’s black volcanic soils, he chose a path far from modern winemaking shortcuts. The vineyards are farmed naturally, and in the cellar the wines ferment with native yeasts and are bottled without added sulphur.
For Salvatore, the goal has never been perfection but truth — allowing the raw character of Etna to emerge in the glass. His wines carry the tension of the volcano: mineral, vibrant, sometimes wild, but always deeply tied to the land.
At Masseria Case Rosse, wine is not manufactured — it is revealed, shaped by lava soils, altitude, and the living energy of Etna.
