MARTO WINES, Flonheim, Rheinhessen

In the little village of Flonheim in the Rheinhessen region in Germany, there is a little producer Martin under the label Marto Wines make terroir Natural wines. Martin after studying enology in Germany to learn all the trick to make good wines, he worked with Tom Lubbe (of Matassa) and Steph and Eddie at Gut Oggau in Burgenland. After that, he came back to the village where he was born and began to look after the family vineyards which his father was selling grapes to the producers in the area and also making fruit wines with different fruit like strawberry and raspberry. He converted everything to natural farming, eliminated also the use of copper. A full invest in a natural process with cover crops and canopy management all by hands. 2017 was Marto Wines’ first vintage. Grapes are hand harvest. Chablis Climats and Lieux-dit

Climat: from the Greek Klima via the Latin Cliamtis.  Precisely delimited plots of land which benefit from specific geological and climate conditions...  Lieux-dits a designated area of land with a historical particularity from a topographical point of view of an ancient story... These two terms in wine always as an interchange used; however, you can find several Lieux-dits within a single Climat... Chablis is a really good example of how these two concepts work together.   See the map above and you can see how many Lieux-Dit compose a climat, in this case, 1er Cru. For example Montmains 1er Cru, a famous block of vineyard on the left bank of the Serein river at the bottom holds two famous Lieux-dit called Forets and Butteaux; according to the INAO, this can be a label on his own or as Montmains 1er Cru.  Vaillons 1er Cru got several different names, those are: Sechet, Les Lys, Les Epinottes, Ronciers, Mellinots, Beugnons and Chatains....

  Suenen is a small new RM located in the Cote des Blancs. A small family Champagne house run by  Aurelien the son of Daniel, who took over in 2008 suddenly after his dad was diagnosed with cancer.  Aurelien found himself with a great responsibility, but with the willing to do a great job; start to be inspired after visiting producers as Pascal Agrapart and Anselme Selosse. From this visit he start to take care of the the soil of his vineyard.
