2020 AURÉLIEN LEFORT 'PRIMA' GAMAY

Dominated by the foothills and low mountains of the Massif Central, Auvergne is a wine region with vineyards lie between 400 and 500 meters with a continental climate with two major rivers the Loire and the Allier (where the famous oak barrel come from). These rivers have carved their paths through the Massif Central, creating valleys, lakes, and alluvial plains on their route towards the lower-lying lands of northern and western France. The Terroir across the appellation is varied but generally influenced by the volcanic activity of the Massif Central's pre-history.

Aurélien Lefort farms around 1.5 hectares of vines around his village Madriat. Aurélien’s vineyards are planted with a big mix of varieties some of which are nearly 120 years old. He is a very quiet reflective winemakers also as a nice kind personality. He loves his job and his wine region.

He harvests late and uses an unusual technique, where he immerses whole clusters of grapes in direct press juice, in small tanks, recreating the same effect as carbonic maceration. Sulfur is never used in his wine and the intervention is inexistence. His wines has reach the gems of unobtainable. Aurelien makes wines of incredible purity in a tiny cellar underneath his house.

Aurelien working with several friends around Europe traveling to different wine regions Italy - Spain, and France of course; he picks the grapes in person and returns to his cellar to be vinified.

2020 AURÉLIEN LEFORT 'PRIMA' GAMAY Beaujolais, France

Prima is in concept a ‘primeur’ from a place called  Les Epines in Beaujolais.

The grapes were mostly destemmed with short maceration and early bottling.

Mostly red-fruited, the wine is earthy and savory with stony minerality, high fresh acidity vertical and horizontal kaleidoscopic in all is form; to be made with the concept of Primeur this cuvee got the length and complexity of a Morgon "Cote de Puy"
