Harvest Controvento Abruzzo

Harvest @ Controvento Abruzzo
Montepulciano D'Abruzzo is classic, well-rounded, plum-scented Italian red is made from Montepulciano grapes grown in the Abruzzo region, on Italy's Adriatic coast.
The vineyards are spread all over the region, inland and along the coast, the latest benefit for the sea breeze on one side and the Apennine chain mountain on the other side.
There are five viticultural sub-zones that have been identified as producing Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wines of a particular quality, and their names may well be found on labels, written as part of the appellation title. These are: Alto Tirino, Casauria, Teate, Terre dei Peligni and Terre dei Vestini.
I have been spending some days harvesting the Montepulciano grape at little vigneron in the province of Chieti "Vincenzo Di Meo" of the winery Controvento, in the little town called Rocca San Giovanni:
5 hectares of vine in a unique block, planted with Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Fiano, and other white varieties. Vincenzo is a vigneron it doesn't look for an appellation system all his wines are labeled as Vino da Tavola (Vin de table).
Here the farming is a very simple organic practice, with cover crops and some wildness connection with mother nature, letting the vines fight with her.
2021 has been a very hot vintage with almost no rain so the quality of the grapes is exceptional very healthy almost no waste.

How you can see in the pics trough the row  the flowers and herbs growing spontaneously, very alive to be at the end of October, also the sun is shining with an amazing blue sky.
Controvento got an average of vine age around 25 years old, healthy grapes.
Cordon de royalt is the training system using by Vincenzo.
The sea in this pics on the background.
The same pic on the other side looks at the Majella Mountain the second biggest in Abruzzo
Biodiversity is one of the beauty of the Mediterranea scrub of this region with forest trees, olive plants, and wheat fields.
After picking in single box we desteemed the grapes and straight the berries went into the tank.
The Anfora project getting bigger ....
The Meditarrenan scrub
Trebbiano D'Abruzzo, Vincenzo left some row to be pick later to create a must for tirage his Pet Nat production.

We tasted some wines from the 2020 vintage from the tank in this case a Trebbiano with lots of acidity and nice green character in a very good shape; will be bottling next year.
The Montepulciano Rose is on the sour red fruit with acidity and energy.
